Dembia WaSH Project benefited more than 4700 people by providing pure water supply

EOC-DICAC Dembia Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion Project which started project implementation in October 2013 in five Kebeles of Dembia wereda of North Gonder Zone has benefited 4,735 people in potable water supply. To benefit these people the project has developed 3 springs, 5 shallow wells and 12 hand dug wells in the last six months with an outlay of Birr 3,160, 401. The project is funded by Water Aid Ethiopia.

Moreover, the project has benefited 12,442 people and 4,960 people in sanitation and hygiene respectively. Capacity building was one of the project activity and able to train 7,334 people on mass hygiene and sanitation education and , 9 WaSHco c on proper  management and operation of water supply schemes, 34 water care takers selected from the user communities on operation and maintenance of water supply schemes. The water care takers are also provided with the required hand tools.

As a result of the project outputs the incidence of water borne diseases have been reduced significantly and the communities behavior on personal hygiene and environmental sanitation is changed and every one has the awareness to have and use own pit latrines as well as wash their hands at critical times.
