The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahdo Church Development and Inter church Aid Commission has been performing marvelous achievements since its establishment 45 years ago. Development and Inter-church Aid Commission of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahdo Church conducted a ground-breaking meeting with its funding partners. The meeting was mainly held tightly on to bring the long contrived development endeavors of the Commission to the minds of the timely-tested funding partners and government officials. Demystifying the Commission’s 44 years of long development journey and its rewarding achievements to the participants was the other purpose of the consultative meeting. The Commission also desired to inspire the concerned officials and other pertinent experts at the meeting to work hand in hand to eliminate poverty in Ethiopia in particular and slur it in the world at large.

In response to the El Niño-induced drought in 2015/2016 EOC-DICAC provided emergency assistance to drought affected people through the implementation of emergency seed support and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH)

In 2016, the Federal Democratic Republic Government of Ethiopian declared emergency appeal to provide support for more than 400 rural districts (Woredas) with 10.2 million people including nearly 6 million children who are affected by El Niño-induced drought. It was also reported that the drought caused the death of over 400 thousand livestock and displacement of 0.8 million people. One billion four hundred USD was requested to respond to this emergency. Ankober, Berehet and Kewot Woredas of North Shewa Zone, Sekota and Dahna Woeredas of Wag Hemra Zone and Worebabu, Mekdela and Legambo Woredas of South Wollo Zone of Amhara Regional State and Dulecha Woreda, Semurobi Woreda and Argoba Special Woreda of Afar Regional state of Ethiopia were among the 400 districts affected by the drought.

EOC-DICAC has been awarded by North Shewa Zone and Ankober Woreda Administrations for standing first and outstanding contributions in 2016 fiscal year among the NGOs operating in the area

There are 48 NGOs, who implement development and emergency interventions, in North Shewa Zone, Amhara Regional State of Ethiopia. North Shewa Zone conducts GO (Government) – NGO (Non Government organization) meeting on regular basis. Every year, the zone in collaboration with GO-NGO forum organizes field visit and a meeting to share good practices, appreciate the contributions of NGOs and provided awards to best performing NGOs.

Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church Endorses Nutrition Sermon Guide Encouraging Better Nutrition for Mothers and Children

To improve nutrition practices by addressing fasting practices of pregnant/lactating women and children under two.

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, January 12, 2016 - During the official annual meeting of the Holy Synod, the Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (EOTC), his Holiness Abune Matias I, formally blessed and endorsed a nutrition sermon guide which instructs to forgo fasting during the first 1000 days (from conception to age two) for mothers and their babies. The sermon guide, developed by EOTC in collaboration with USAID’s flagship multi-sector nutrition project, Empowering New Generations to Improve Nutrition and Economic opportunities (ENGINE), emphasizes the importance of consuming a nutritious diet including animal source foods in order to prevent maternal under nutrition and childhood stunting.
