ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia – Religious leaders and faith-based organizations from across Africa convened for the Pre-Summit Faith Workshop, where they formally endorsed the Addis Ababa Faith Declaration on Climate Justice.
The event hosted together key partners including ACT Alliance, the Ethiopian Orthodox Church Development and Inter-Church Aid Commission (EOC-DICAC), the All-Africa Conference of Churches (AACC), the Inter-Religious Council of Ethiopia, and the Consortium for Climate Change Ethiopia.
The workshop amplified a strong moral call for urgent global action on climate change, debt relief, equitable climate finance, peace, food sovereignty, and the dignity of women and youth. Faith leaders stressed that their voices must shape Africa’s climate and finance agenda, particularly in the lead-up to the African Climate Summit (ACS2) and COP30.
Speaking at the gathering, representatives highlighted that climate justice is not only an environmental issue but also a moral and spiritual imperative. They emphasized the responsibility of faith communities to advocate for vulnerable populations most affected by climate change and economic injustice.
The Addis Ababa Faith Declaration is expected to serve as a unifying framework, urging governments and international actors to adopt policies that reflect fairness, solidarity, and respect for human dignity.
