EOC-DICAC Expands Immunization Efforts
Since the establishment of Ethiopia’s national immunization program in 1980 G.C., the country has recorded remarkable progress in reducing morbidity and mortality associated with vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs). Building on this national achievement, the Ethiopian Orthodox Church Development and Inter-Church Aid Commission (EOC-DICAC) has played a critical role in improving public health, particularly in expanding vaccination coverage.
Currently, EOC-DICAC is implementing vaccination projects across three regions covering 6 sub cities in B/Dar city, 29 woredas in Amhara, 5 woredas in Oromia, and 10 woredas in South Ethiopia regions DICAC focuses on reaching zero-dose (ZD) and under-vaccinated (UV) children with special attention to remote, underserved pastoralist and vulnerable populations.
In addition, through its cross-border immunization collaborations with Kenya, the commission has contributed significantly to the prevention of vaccine preventable diseases in the project areas including international border communities.
Our projects are not only bringing life-saving vaccines to children who previously lacked access to health services but also raises awareness on the importance of early vaccination in preventing diseases and safeguarding child health. By addressing persistent gaps in coverage, our projects are accelerating Ethiopia’s progress toward universal immunization and contribute to the broader goal of reducing vaccine-preventable illnesses and deaths.
