Stakeholders gathered today in Adama for the launch of a new one-year initiative under the title “Integrated Response to GBV/Protection”, targeting the woredas of Minjar Shenkora Woreda and Moretina Jiru in the North Shoa Zone.
The project aims to ensure the safety, dignity and rights of all persons affected by crisis, with particular attention to the most vulnerable, by preventing and responding to gender base violence. The project is designed to benefit a target population of 8,594 individuals, with 499,999.98 USD budget funded by the UNOCHA through Ethiopian Humanitarian Fund and has the key expectation to result survivors of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) will access lifesaving, specialized services that are tailored and relevant to their immediate needs.
During the workshop participants from both woredas worked in joint sessions to develop an action plan and took responsibility for implementing the project at local level.
Project managers noted that the one-year timeframe will focus on rapid establishment of mechanisms: safe-spaces, awareness-raising campaigns and data-collection systems. In addition stressed sustainability beyond the year will depend on strong local ownership, clear monitoring and the integration of services into existing local structures.
Similarly, a project implemented parallel to this project will be launched by the next week at Amhara region Awi zone three woredas (Jawi, Fagta Lakoma and Ayehu Guagsa).
