As part of the national initiative the monitoring visit focuses on ending Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and child marriage.
The mission was supported by Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) and Save the Children and organized by EOTC-DICAC in collaboration with the Ministry of Women and Social Affairs (MoWSA).
Representatives from the Ministries of Women and Social Affairs, Health, Education, and Justice, along with zonal and woreda officials, were participants. The team witnessed strong community mobilization, with religious leaders, elders, women, and youth groups actively promoting the abandonment of harmful traditional practices.
Schools and community structures demonstrated remarkable progress in life skills programs that empower young people and raise awareness about the impacts of FGM and child marriage.
The team observed strong community engagement in promoting the abandonment of harmful traditional practices and encouraged the scaling up of successful community-driven initiatives to other woredas.
In addition to its work on FGM and child marriage prevention, EOTC-DICAC has been providing continuous support to IDPs and conflict-affected communities in Debre Birhan, including Baqelo, China, and Woyneshet camps. This includes psychosocial support, protection interventions, and community-based initiatives that promote healing, social cohesion, and resilience.
